When streamer Hasan Piker’s planned appearance at the University of Texas at Austin (UT) raised concerns among Jewish students, Schechter alum Jeremy Lamm stepped up to help bring a different voice to campus, that of former Israeli hostage Maya Regev.

Jeremy moderated a discussion with Regev before 250 students at UT’s Chabad house, where Regev recounted her 50 days in Hamas captivity after being kidnapped with her brother from the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023.

As reported in Jewish Insider, the Israel on Campus Coalition organized the evening in response to Piker’s appearance across campus. Cosponsored by several campus and Israel advocacy groups, the event gave students an opportunity to hear Regev’s story firsthand.

Jeremy was invited to moderate as a senior fellow of the Geller Fellowship, through which he studied regional cooperation under the Abraham Accords last winter, culminating in a 10-day delegation to the UAE and Israel.

For Jeremy, participating in that response reflects a connection to Israel that began long before college. Now studying computer science, entrepreneurship, and Hebrew at UT Austin, he credits Schechter with helping shape the interests he is pursuing today. His experience, he says, “Built the foundation for my passion for technology and Israel that I would later combine.”

Those interests have already taken Jeremy from Austin to Tel Aviv and New York, with opportunities in venture capital that included an internship with Porsche Ventures in Tel Aviv and, most recently, leading operations and partnerships at a venture capital firm in New York.

“The best thing about my job hands down has been getting to work within the Israeli tech and venture ecosystem,” Jeremy says.

After Schechter, Jeremy attended Deerfield High School and spent summers at Ramah Wisconsin. Jeremy’s Schechter friendships have lasted well beyond the classroom. He remains close with Jake Lampert-West, Aryeh Levy, and Leo Baum, with he and Leo even living together in New York this past summer. His college involvement includes TAMID Group, Birthright Excel, Silicon Hills Project, and Sigma Alpha Mu, bringing together his interests in business, technology, and Jewish life.

Whether working within Israel’s tech community or helping fellow students hear directly from a former hostage, Jeremy is putting his leadership and advocacy skills, Jewish values, and connection to Israel into action.

When asked how to describe Schechter, Jeremy says, “The most outstanding community with an unending passion for raising the next generation of Jewish leaders and instilling them with the values to lead with passion, courage, and a propensity to make the world a better place.”
