Discover More for your Child at the Ginsburg Early Childhood Center

A joyful, stimulating, and nurturing environment for your child to learn and grow.

The Ginsburg Solomon Schechter Early Childhood Center embraces the Mission Statement, Core Values and Guiding Principles that are the foundation of the Solomon Schechter Day School, a Conservative Jewish day school following the tenets of the Conservative Movement.

We believe that children are competent and capable and that every child is on an individual & unique developmental journey. We meet each child where they are at, and educate them to their highest potential.

We create high quality classroom environments that provide children with opportunities for play and exploration integrating Jewish life with Judaic content.

The Ginsburg Early Childhood Center’s Fundamental Principles of Emergent Curriculum

A Reggio approach to an Emergent Curriculum

Our classrooms reflect an emergent curriculum in which our lessons and explorations emerge from the children’s interests and curiosity. With the guidance of our outstanding faculty, our young, competent children explore and analyze materials and topics. They increase their cognitive, social, and emotional learning through language-rich work and play. Our faculty engages in study with a focus on educational research to ensure that best educational practices always guide our vision and teaching.

Constructivist Mindset to Teaching

Solomon Schechter Day School Chicago

We celebrate and respond to each child’s unique self. Our joyful and nurturing learning environment encourages each child to explore and discover his or her strengths and capacities, build positive relationships with classmates and teachers, and function as a member of a small community. The environment of each intentionally designed classroom functions as a “laboratory” for the children to explore the meaning of their learning, which is documented throughout our school.

Play Based Learning

Solomon Schechter Day School Chicago

Everyday in our school, children learn, develop and explore their world. Through this exploration, they build oral and written language, make connections with print and visual materials and express themselves through conversation, writing, painting and drawing. The ways in which children use their many languages are the beginnings of literacy. Our language-rich program, integrated with extensive use of the fine, visual, and performing arts, allows children to find many vehicles for expressing what they are learning. Play is the young child’s “work”, and is the authentic vehicle for making sense of their world.

Relationship Centered Development

jewish

The faculty builds relationships with children and supports children as they develop relationships with their peers, and this enables positive play and exploration with the authentic and natural materials provided in the classroom.
