Alumni Spotlight: Matias (Mati) Slovksy ‘11

From Kindergarten and first grade at Schechter to the entrepreneurial world of Buenos Aires, Mati’s journey reflects adaptability, joy, and a deep sense of community.

After his early childhood years in Chicago, Mati returned to Argentina where he attended ORT High School before going on to the Universidad de Buenos Aires, earning a Bachelor of Administration. His path was enriched not only academically, but also through vibrant community involvement — serving as a Madrij, playing soccer in a Jewish club, competing in the Maccabiah Games representing Argentina, and taking part in life-changing journeys such as Taglit and March of the Living.

Today, Mati is the Co-Founder and CFO of Pointer, a digital marketing and AI-driven agency headquartered in Buenos Aires. Over the last decade, he has helped the company grow to nearly 90 team members, building lasting partnerships with clients across the U.S. and Latin America. In his role, he oversees financial strategy, business development, and international partnerships.

“What I love most about my job is creating long-term collaborations and helping clients achieve measurable impact through innovative digital and AI solutions,” he said.

Though his time at Schechter was just two short years, those experiences left a lasting imprint. Moving from Argentina to Chicago at the age of six, he faced the challenge of adapting to a new culture and language. Schechter, he said, gave him the gift of belonging and adaptability.

“From the very first day, Schechter made me feel part of the community. That sense of belonging has stayed with me ever since. I love being a host, welcoming people into my home and making them feel comfortable — and I believe that comes from those early experiences.”

For Mati, Schechter represents warmth, inclusion, and lasting impact. Even though his time there was brief, the friendships, values, and memories continue to influence his life.

In early September, Mati visited the United States with his partner Melina. They made a special stop to Chicago so that he could show her why Schechter was such a significant part of his childhood.

“During his visit and tour of Schechter today, when we passed KB (as it was called then), Mati shared a story about how his Kindergarten teacher, Daniela Gliksberg, helped him feel more comfortable at a time when he didn’t yet speak English,” said Tami Warshawsky, Director of Development.

“Following the tour, I reached out to Daniela to connect her with Mati.” Daniela shared, “‘I feel so honored to be remembered by Mati. For me it was such a treat to teach him. We used to do morning circle time in Hebrew, English, and Spanish. It not only made Mati feel welcome, it also allowed Mati’s classmates to learn a little bit of Spanish — and that was great for them.”

Mati’s experience demonstrates the lasting impact that Schechter has on its alumni — no matter how long they are at Schechter. “I left Schechter feeling so touched and so happy,” said Mati. “The visit brought back many memories and my time at Schechter is something that I will always treasure.”

Mati’s advice to younger generations and to his younger self: “Always keep your arms open to welcome others, and never forget the importance of continuity — carrying forward our Jewish life, values, and traditions.”
