Beyond
A Schechter education extends beyond the classroom into a vibrant array of athletic, extracurricular, and enrichment opportunities.
Schechter’s well-rounded experience sparks new passions, expands perspectives, builds friendships, and gives students more ways to learn and grow.
Physical activity positively impacts our students’ cognitive functioning, self-confidence, and relationships.
Our outstanding athletic program creates a well-rounded athletic experience that seamlessly blends interscholastic and intramural offerings. Our program is designed to maximize student participation, promote physical and social development, build sportsmanship and team-building, and develop skills across different sports and fitness.
Beginning in fifth grade, students can choose among a diverse array of sports options including soccer, basketball, track and field, cross country, golf, flag football, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee. Younger students can also participate in after-school sports sponsored by our Parent Organization.
Athletic offerings continue to expand based on student interest. Students also learn the value of being a team member, the experience of winning and losing graciously and respectfully, an appreciation for the benefits of hard work and perseverance, and the joy of pursuing a healthy and active lifestyle.
As part of our whole child approach, we weave a variety of extracurricular activities into the school day.
When the school day ends, Kindergarten through fifth graders are able to participate in a variety of fun, creative, and academic classes offered by our Parent Organization including, chess, sports, cooking, art, yoga and movement, and more. Beginning in third through fifth grade, students seeking even more enrichment can join our multi-grade choir, dance troupe, or any of our many clubs.
Fifth through eighth graders can join our outstanding band program, where they learn to read music, play a band instrument, and perform a wide repertoire of melodies including jazz, Judaic, and improvisational selections. They can also perform in a Broadway Musical Stage Band, as well as create a musical composition using “Blue Man Group instruments.”
Our full-scale Sager School musical theater production, now in its 30th year, gives students their moment to shine on and off the stage. Each year, nearly 100 students participate in the cast, crew, and stage band to present a spectacular performance. The experience fosters teamwork and responsibility, builds self-esteem, and creates a tremendous sense of accomplishment.
A Schechter education takes students beyond the classroom.
Through field trips, social action projects, and interfaith programming with local Muslim and Christian schools, our students have fun with their classmates, build connections, and learn the value of giving back to their community and our world.
Experiential learning takes flight for our older students. Fifth and eighth graders pack their sleeping bags for a Shabbaton — an overnight stay to celebrate Shabbat as a community.
Sixth graders gear up for an immersive multi-day adventure to explore the relationship between Judaism, the sixth grade curriculum, and nature.
Seventh graders travel to Washington, D.C. to explore our nation’s capital through a Jewish lens and learn to integrate national and Jewish pride with the responsibilities of citizenship.
Eighth graders culminate their years at Schechter with a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Israel. For two weeks, they see, taste, and live all that they have learned at Schechter as they traverse the country with their classmates and teachers.
