🌊Noach🌈

by Shoshana'28

In this week’s Parsha, Noach, G-d decides to wipe out all the world and start fresh. He chooses Noach and his wife Naamah to start fresh with Him. We know that Noach gathers two of each animal and builds an Ark. But what does Naamah do? One of my favorite Midrashim says right before the flood, Nnaamah gathers the seeds of every single plant in the world. She then builds a garden in the Ark to put all the plants in. At first, Noach doubts her & thinks she has too little time but Naamah works hard to save all the plants and put them on the Ark. So how can we learn from Naamah?

It says in the text that after 40 days and 40 nights Noach sent a Raven. Then he sent a dove, which came back. After waiting seven days he sent the dove out again and it returned with an olive branch in its beak. Commentators say that that olive tree held its head high during the flood & one branch still stuck out. But the plant itself can only do so much. So we should persevere like Naamah & do more Tikkun Olam, Saving the planet. It could be biking somewhere instead of taking the car, it could be picking up trash in a public place like a park. No matter what you do you can make a difference, through Tikkun Olam, just like Naamah.
