New Natural Playspace Brings Joy and Growth to Schechter’s Youngest Learners
There's nothing quite like the joy of seeing a child's face light up as they embark on a new adventure. Now, that joy will be a daily experience for our youngest learners at Schechter’s Ginsburg Early Childhood Center (ECC).
“For many years I’ve envisioned a natural playspace where young children can explore, learn, and grow within nature,” said Ginsburg ECC Director Zahava Berman. “I’m thrilled that this dream has become a reality, and I am excited about the growth our yeladim (students) will experience as they engage with the natural materials in this intentional and custom-made outdoor playspace.”
"We considered every type of learner and every phase of early childhood development in our design to ensure there’s something for everyone,” she added. “This space will allow each child to grow socially, emotionally, physically, and academically."
“Our exceptional faculty and staff empower children to think deeply, embrace new challenges, build relationships, engage in learning, and develop caring and thoughtful actions to last a lifetime,” Zahava said.
Creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where children’s curiosity and joy are encouraged every day is a hallmark of Schechter’s ECC.
In the fall of 2024, the ECC found a new home at Schechter’s Northbrook Campus — unifying our community and enhancing the ECC program with modern facilities — including access to a gym, library, and more. The new location enriches students’ learning through both indoor and outdoor experiences. Now, with the addition of the outdoor playspace, there are even more ways for our youngest learners to learn and grow through play.
Twice each day, through imaginative play, 45 little learners build their math, gross motor, social, and emotional skills, as they become curious young explorers. This space exceeds national physical education standards and is inclusive for early childhood students of all ages and abilities.
“The new natural Outdoor Playspace represents a significant step forward for our youngest learners,” said Dr. Lena Kushnir. “This innovative environment is designed to foster curiosity, resilience, and imagination and offers a space where children can thrive and build lasting memories. As they climb, create, and explore, these young adventurers develop essential skills and build a foundation for lifelong learning and growth.”
