Pack your bags, seventh graders—it’s time for an unforgettable adventure in our nation’s capital!
The 7th Grade Washington, D.C. Experience is more than just a trip—it’s a hands-on journey through history, leadership, & Jewish identity in the heart of our nation’s capital. Over the course of several action-packed days, students bring their learning to life as they explore the institutions, monuments, & stories that shape America—all through a uniquely Jewish lens.
From standing in awe at the Lincoln Memorial to touring the U.S. Capitol & paying tribute at the Holocaust Memorial Museum, students gain a deeper understanding of democracy, civic responsibility, & the impact of Jewish Americans on our country’s history. Along the way, they engage in thought-provoking discussions, experience the excitement of D.C.’s bustling streets, & connect their Jewish values to the principles of justice, leadership, & service.
Beyond the landmarks, this immersive adventure fosters personal growth, strengthens friendships, & inspires students to see themselves as both proud Jews & active citizens. With every step through history, they deepen their connection to their heritage, their country, & their role in shaping the future.
This isn’t just a field trip—it’s a journey of discovery, reflection, & unforgettable memories!

Your Packing List
ALL ITEMS MUST FIT IN A CARRY-ON SUITCASE
THAT CAN BE TAKEN ON THE AIRPLANE
Please note that all items must be stowed in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. They may not be stowed in the seat back pocket. Each student is allowed only one suitcase and one personal item (can be a backpack or the string bag that is provided). All baggage must adhere to the following rules:
- Must fit under your seat or in the overhead bin
- Must not be more than 9 x 14 x 22 inches
WHAT TO BRING
This is not a complete list, as you must also use your own discretion. The school dress code applies in Washington, DC as well.
The following items will be provided:
The following items will be packed for each student in their complimentary string bag to be brought on the trip:
- Siddur
- DC commemorative class trip sweatshirt
- Refillable and personalized water bottle
These are recommended packing materials:
- Tallit & Tefillin – required for those who have the obligation to use them
- Kippot and kippot clips – make sure to have extra (in backpack)
- Breakfast & snack for Monday morning*
- Casual, layerable clothing for two days, PJs for two nights, sweater or light jacket, and long pants
- Comfortable, closed toe walking shoes (Athletic shoes are best.)
- Toiletries – make sure that these are stored in TSA compliant containers (3,1,1) and placed in a quart sized ziploc bag
- a hat (worn over a kippah, not in lieu of)
- swimsuit and cover up
- Cameras – disposable are highly recommended
- Spending money: a maximum of $75.00 is strongly suggested.
- Students who may need asthma inhalers should bring at least two
* Students will not be permitted to purchase any food in airports
Do NOT Bring:
- Snacks to share in your room at night
- Valuable objects* (jewelry, expensive cameras, electronic games, etc)
* Schechter cannot be responsible for lost or stolen property
Remember, you represent the Sager Solomon Schechter Day School and must be dressed appropriately at all times. Kippot are also to be worn at all times.

The 7th Grade Washington, D.C. Experience is an immersive journey through our nation’s capital, where students explore American history, democracy, & leadership through a Jewish lens. Over the course of several days, they visit iconic landmarks, engage in hands-on learning, & connect their Jewish values to civic responsibility. From touring the U.S. Capitol to reflecting at the Holocaust Memorial Museum, this trip deepens students’ understanding of what it means to be both American & Jewish. More than just a trip, it’s an opportunity to bring classroom learning to life, build lifelong memories with classmates, & inspire the next generation of engaged leaders.

Students can expect a journey through Washington, D.C., where history, leadership & Jewish identity come to life! On this trip, students will:
